Every good study starts with a clear and concise overview of the subject. A lay of the land, if you will. In this case, it’s a short and sweet list of the six biggest Summer music festivals of the Benelux, including Pinkpop, Best Kept Secret, Down The Rabbit Hole, Rock Werchter, Concert at Sea and Lowlands. Find out the basics of every festival, from the dates to the line-up, and click through to more detailed, sharply written and honest Almost Famous Writer reviews.
So we start with the overview, but what follows? The upcoming months, Almost Famous Writer will transform into the ultimate Summer Music Festival Guide. Keep an eye out for camping tips, beauty essentials, packing lists, must-see artists and festival reviews!
WHEN? 3 – 5 June, 2017
WHERE? Landgraaf, the Netherlands
WHO? Pinkpop surprised friends and foes with Justin Bieber as the festival’s third headliner. Forums exploded, die-hard Pinkpop veterans protested and Beliebers stormed the ticket sales: it was quite the surprise. But there are plenty of other artists besides the Biebs, including Green Day, Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons and Kaiser Chiefs.
TICKETS? There are still plenty of tickets available, click right here for yours.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? As someone who grew up going to Pinkpop nearly every Summer, I have plenty of wisdom to share. Click here for a review of Pinkpop 2015, and here for a throwback to last year’s edition. For additional information and practicalities, click here for the official website.
// Best Kept Secret
WHEN? June 16 – 18, 2017
WHERE? Hilvarenbeek, the Netherlands
WHO? For those with a more alternative taste (and those who have the urge to barf when they see Justin Bieber’s face), there’s Best Kept Secret. This festival shocked and almost immediately sold out after landing Radiohead as their headliner. The festival’s added AURORA, George Ezra, Thomas Azier, James Blake and The Boxer Rebellion to the line-up.
TICKETS? Better be fast, because nearly all tickets are already sold out! Currently there are some left for the first day of the festival, which you can purchase right here.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? The festival is an annual staple since 2013, and you can find reviews on Almost Famous Writer from 2015 and 2016. For more information, click here for the official website.
// Down The Rabbit Hole
WHEN? 23 – 25 June, 2017
WHERE? Beuningen, the Netherlands
WHO? Down The Rabbit Hole has not had it easy this year. Two out of three headliners cancelled and replacements had to be found on short notice. Nonetheless, the festival still houses Fleet Foxes, Oscar And The Wolf, Milky Chance, Bazart and Bear’s Den.
TICKETS? You can still buy your weekend tickets via the following link.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Back in 2014, I went to the very first edition of DTRH and it is honestly one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. You can read my review of the 2015 edition right here and find more information on their official website.
// Rock Werchter
WHEN? 29 June – 2 July, 2017
WHERE? Werchter, Belgium
WHO? Arguably, the prize of best line-up this year goes to Rock Werchter, which will welcome Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Lorde, Royal Blood, Radiohead, Oscar and the Wolf, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters and Alt-J.
TICKETS? You can still get your hands on tickets for the Thursday and the Friday; the rest is completely sold-out. You can buy your tickets here.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Shamefully and regretfully, I have never been to Rock Werchter myself, but fortunately their official website is very colorful and helpful.
// Concert At Sea
WHEN? 30 June – July 1, 2017
WHERE? Brouwersdam, the Netherlands
WHO? Traditionally, Zeeuwse band Bløf will headline the festival, but they will be joined by Kensington, Tom Odell (!), Gavin James, Chef’s Special, Rondé and Sue The Night.
TICKETS? Completely sold out! You can test your luck via Ticketswap or other channels, or you already preregister for tickets for the 2018 edition here.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Last year I went to Concert at Sea as a reporter for 3VOOR12, of which you can find my review right here and more information can be found on their official website.
WHEN? 18 – 20 August, 2017
WHERE? Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands
WHO? Lowlands’ impressive line-up includes Mumford & Sons, The XX, Editors, Alt-J, Elbow, Flume, London Grammar, Future Islands, and Bastille.
TICKETS? Still available, so go and get them right here!
WANT TO KNOW MORE? Last year I went for the first time, of which you read my review right here, and for more information check their slightly epilepsy-inducing website here.
